Australians have embraced solar energy in a big way thus far — but many are still waiting for the right moment to add a battery to their system. That moment may be just around the corner.
The Labor Party has announced this week a $2.3 billion national home battery rebate that will reduce battery prices by around 30%, making energy storage more affordable than ever before for homeowners, farmers, small businesses and community facilities.
But there’s a catch: this will only happen if Labor wins the next federal election.
At AusPac Solar, we want to help our customers understand what this could mean — and how to prepare.
The rebate will be approximately $372 per kWh, though this may be reduced slightly by admin fees.
Here’s a quick example:
If you were to purchase an 11.5 kWh battery, you could save roughly $4,000 under this scheme.
To calculate your estimated rebate:
If you're a farmer needing a battery system, and you’re considering a 50 kWh system (which is the upper limit for the full rebate), here’s what you’d be eligible for:
50 kWh × $372/kWh = $18,600
That’s a significant rebate — and could be the deciding factor in whether you expand your system to go fully off-grid or add greater storage to reduce diesel or generator reliance.
Here’s what Josh, Head Electrician at AusPac Solar, had to say about the current opportunity:
“We recommend installing your battery now — here's why: battery prices will dip in the meantime, as many will hold off until July 1. Once the rebate kicks in, demand will surge and prices will soar.”
“The smart move is to get your battery installed early. That way, when 1 July comes, you simply turn it on, claim your rebate, and you’re done — while everyone else is scrambling.”
“So you SHOULD buy now — it won’t be cheaper. THEN turn it on and get the money before the rush and before prices climb.”
“The period between 1 July and 31 December will be crazy otherwise — delays, price hikes, stock shortages. Beat the rush.”
If you install a battery now (and leave it switched off until the rebate officially starts), you’ll be first in line to claim and you’ll lock in today’s lower prices.
If you're still unsure whether or not batteries are worth it for your home, business or facility, see our video here:
Yes and no.
If you’ve been holding off on buying a battery due to price — you’re not alone.
Of Australia’s 10.8 million homes, only about 4 million have solar, and of those, only around 30% have batteries.
The biggest reason? Cost. Even though batteries offer energy security, bill savings and better control over how you use power, the upfront investment has been a barrier for many families and property owners.
With this rebate, those barriers are finally coming down.
While the market features many battery options, Sungrow and Tesla are the top-rated brands by Australian customers.
At AusPac Solar, we’ve chosen to exclusively offer Sungrow & Solax batteries. Here’s why:
This upcoming rebate is a game-changer for anyone looking to future-proof their home or farm with solar and battery storage. Whether you’re connected to the grid, semi off-grid, or entirely off-grid, this subsidy could make your investment far more affordable.
But it’s important to act early:
At AusPac Solar, we’re here to guide you through your options, ensure your system is compliant, and help you maximise your savings.
